Cyanotypes

For this project, I’ve explored the timeless process of cyanotype photography, creating unique prints on delicate Japanese paper. Cyanotype, an early photographic process known for its striking blue tones, has been a medium I’ve embraced not only for its historical significance but also for the creative potential it offers. Through this project, I experimented with toning these prints using natural substances like black tea, green tea, and coffee.

Each of these toners imparts a distinct, warm patina that shifts the original blue tones into rich, earthy hues—creating a sense of depth and texture while embracing the organic qualities of the materials used. The process is deeply tactile, requiring patience and care as the paper absorbs the toners, revealing new shades and nuances. This project represents a blend of tradition and experimentation, where each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind exploration of both nature and photography.
